Home cooking

Breakfast is in the room price. Lunch and dinner are cooked in the family kitchen when you ask in the morning, vegetarian or not.

What's around

We'll help you plan the days and book a car for the longer trips.

  • Tiger Hill

The sunrise viewpoint above Ghoom, where the first light reaches the Kanchenjunga range. Cars leave well before dawn; ask us the night before and we'll pack you breakfast.

  • Tea gardens

The hills around Darjeeling are covered in tea estates. Some welcome visitors in the picking season; ask us which ones are open while you're here.

  • Mall Road and Chowrasta

The town's walking promenade and its open square at the top of the ridge, with benches, bookshops and tea rooms. The place for an evening walk.

  • The toy train

Darjeeling station is on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the narrow-gauge line that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ghoom, on the same line, is its highest station.

Getting here

Darjeeling is reached by road from the plains at Siliguri. We can book a car to meet you; tell us your train or flight when you book.

By train: New Jalpaiguri (NJP)

The main railway station for the hills. Shared jeeps and taxis go up to Darjeeling from outside the station, or a car we book meets you at the exit.

By air: Bagdogra

The airport near Siliguri. Prepaid taxis wait outside the arrivals hall, or a car we book meets you there.

The toy train also runs up the hill from the plains on some days. Check current trains and timings with Indian Railways before you plan around it. Roads in the hills can be slow in the monsoon, so leave room in your day.

Questions guests ask

Is the Kanchenjunga visible in December?

Often, yes. December mornings are usually clear and cold, and the peaks show best early, before the cloud builds up. The mountains keep their own timetable though, so we can't promise a view on a given day.

Can you arrange a car from NJP?

Yes, from NJP station or Bagdogra airport. Tell us your train or flight when you book, and the driver will meet you with your name on a card. You pay the fare to the driver.

Do you serve vegetarian food?

Yes. Breakfast is vegetarian unless you ask for eggs, and dinner can be all vegetarian. Tell us in the morning what you'd like.

How cold is it in winter?

Cold enough for the quilts and a room heater, which we bring on request. Bring warm layers for the early mornings.

Do children stay free?

Children under 5 sharing your bed stay free. The Family Loft is the room for four.

What's running behind this site For homestays, guest houses and small hotels: this is what Pixelvile builds and runs for you.

Rooms that can't be double booked

Each room's nights are held in the database itself, so two guests pressing Book at once can never get the same room for the same night.

Nightly and weekend rates

A price a night per room type, a Friday and Saturday price, extra guests and minimum nights. The site and the booking page read them live.

Guests book their own dates

They see which rooms are free for every night and the price of the whole stay, then send a request with the advance by UPI.

A rooms calendar and today's list

Two weeks of rooms at a glance, arrivals and departures for the day, check-in and check-out on the phone at the desk.

Booking.com and Airbnb in step

Calendar links both ways, so a night booked on another site closes here, and a night booked here closes there.

Reminders and invoices

A reminder the day before arrival, and an invoice from the stay with the nights at their rates, in one tap.
